New study highlights importance of teacher support in implementing AI chatbots in K-12 classrooms for enhanced student motivation and learning.

On January 17, the Interactive Learning Environments published an article titled "Teacher support and student motivation to learn with Artificial Intelligence (AI) based chatbot". The paper was written by an international team of researchers led by Professor Thomas Chiu and his colleagues in Hong Kong SAR and Japan.

As we continue to see advancements in technology, it is no surprise that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is making its way into classrooms across the globe. However, recent research has shown that there is still a lot to learn about how AI can best support students and teachers in the K-12 setting.

A new study investigated how AI chatbots can support student learning and motivation with the help of their teachers. The researchers found that teacher support played a crucial role in how well students were able to engage with the AI technology, especially for students who were more self-regulated and digitally literate.

By using self-determination theory as a framework, the researchers were able to examine how teacher support impacted students' intrinsic motivation and competence to learn with AI chatbots. The findings suggested that teacher support can have a significant impact on students' needs for relatedness and autonomy, which are important factors for successful learning experiences.

Overall, this study highlights the importance of teacher support in implementing AI technologies in the classroom. As we continue to explore the potential of AI in education, it's crucial that we consider how to best support both students and teachers to ensure that everyone can benefit from these exciting new technologies.
